Overview
The RATS Med V2 Tourniquet from Rapid Medical is an emergency tourniquet designed to quickly control life-threatening hemorrhage, both in urban environments and in the wilderness. Thanks to its simple one-handed design, it adapts to all emergency situations, from mountain bivouacs to demanding hikes, and fits all limb sizes, including those of children and working dogs.
Technical Specifications
- Internal core: vulcanized rubber with a high silicone content, providing constant elasticity for effective compression.
- Protective sheath: polyester sleeve that isolates the core from direct contact with the skin, for more comfortable and hygienic use.
- Locking mechanism: patented system (U.S. Patent No. 9 168 044) allowing fast and secure one-handed application.
- Generation 2: 6 inches longer than the previous generation, to fit limbs with a larger circumference.
- Minimal footprint: compact format, ideal for a bivouac bag, an EDC pouch or an outdoor first aid kit.
- Available colors: Red, Black, Orange, Hi-Vis Yellow, to suit every use or desired visibility.
Advantages
- Simple to learn and use, even under stress, thanks to its intuitive design.
- Works on all limb sizes: adults, children and working dogs.
- Blood flow occlusion effectiveness on upper and lower limbs, evaluated by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research.
- Compact format that can be stored almost anywhere, without cluttering a hiking backpack or bivouac kit.
- Suitable for both personal outdoor use and professional B2B equipment (rescue services, security, remote areas).
Use and Maintenance
The tourniquet must remain in its original plastic packaging until use, in order to preserve its properties. Before each use, inspect the sheath (for fraying), the metal cleat (for cracks) and the entire device for any deformation. If in doubt, do not use it and replace it promptly. Proper training from an EMS professional is recommended before any use in a real situation. Never apply over solid objects. In the event of a trauma that required the use of the tourniquet, go immediately to the nearest hospital. After use, the device must be disposed of in accordance with applicable regulations.
