Overview
The Cold Steel Bushman CS95BUSKZ is a fixed blade survival knife, forged from a single piece of SK-5 steel, with no welds or joints between the blade and handle. Designed for bushcraft and demanding outdoor activities, it combines a 178 mm Drop Point blade with an ingenious hollow handle that can hold small survival gear or accept an extension for added reach. Supplied with a Secure-Ex Kydex-type sheath featuring an integrated ferrocerium fire starter, it makes a complete companion for the forest, camp, or hiking trail.
Technical Specifications
- Steel: high-carbon SK-5, hardened and tempered to 54 HRC for a good balance between hardness and shock resistance
- Blade length: 178 mm (7") Drop Point profile, continuous smooth edge suited for piercing and cutting
- Overall length: 311 mm (12.25") for a versatile grip
- Thickness: 2.5 mm throughout the blade/handle length, ensuring strength for bushcraft tasks
- Handle: hollow, made of SK-5, length approximately 133 mm (5.25"), allowing storage of small gear or the addition of a shaft
- Blade/handle transition zone: tested to withstand more than two tons of pressure, with no breaking point
- Carry: Kydex-type Secure-Ex sheath, with fixed opening and secure attachment
- Box contents: knife, Secure-Ex sheath, and ferrocerium fire starter
Advantages
- One-piece, weld-free construction: unwavering robustness for intensive outdoor use
- Modular hollow handle: carry the essentials or turn the knife into a shafted tool for extra reach
- Fire starter built into the sheath: ready to use on your bushcraft trips, with no extra accessory to buy
- Hand-sharpened then polished blade: a clean edge straight out of the box
- Modest weight (286 g) for comfortable carrying over a long day in the forest
Use and Maintenance
The Bushman is designed for bushcraft uses: cutting, drilling, and camp tasks. The steel handle can be slippery, especially with gloves or in wet weather; it is recommended to wrap paracord or a non-slip band around the hollow handle to improve grip. As with any high-carbon steel, the SK-5 blade deserves careful cleaning and drying after use, followed by a thin coat of oil to limit the risk of corrosion. Store the knife in its Secure-Ex sheath to protect it during transport and storage.
